Aetiology of Spontaneous Cushing's Syndrome Apart from corticosteroids or ACTH therapy, other factors are implicated in the cause of Cushing's syndrome (Fig. 8.7). Pituitary-dependent disease (i.e. Cushing's disease) is four times more common in women than in men and occurs most often between the ages of twenty and forty years.
